The movie awards season usually ends with the Oscars, and as traditions obliges I will try to follow this Hollywood event live.
There were many good and bad movies throughout 2011, and Oscars are here to recognize the "good" ones and to compensate actors who should have won before.
But this year there are many surprises in the Oscar nominations too (well, they have to be creative), and these are my reactions
Starting with the nominated actors and actresses, George Clooney (for Best Actor) didn't do anything outstanding in "The Descendants". A normal role... it could perfectly be a Nexpresso commercial.
Then there is the attempt to good sense to nominate Melissa McCarthy (for Best Supporting Actress) for her lame role in "Bridesmaids". Honestly, if a male actor has a sex-only-jokes-role he's considered cheap, but if it's a girl...it's considered art. :-P
Rooney Mara (for Best Actress) did a good role in David Fincher's "The Girl with the Dragoon Tattoo)... but if you saw the original Swedish movie you will realise the Lisbeth Salander character is almost a copy.
Animation movies are a surprise too this year. For the first time Pixar won't get an Oscar! Wow! How is it possible not to have a Pixar animation movie nominated? :-P I thought there was this kind of Hollywood rule which awarded anything done by Pixar! ahahah It seems "Cars 2" didn't get to the finish line.
But the biggest surprise for me for "Best Animation" Oscar is the absence of "The Adventures of Tintin". One of the two best animation movies in 2011.
Well, I will cheer up for my other favorite animation movie "Rango".
Regarding the nominations for "Best Movie"... I think the movie "Tree of Life" isn't the favorite of anyone I know. But then again, I don't know any of the Academy members :-)
Let's not forget "The Artist"...which I thought it would be nominated for "Best Foreign Movie". But the only way to get a french movie nominated for "Best Movie" is to... keep it silent! ahah

The Bridemaid was a silly movie, BUT that apartment they keep showing is two blocks from my house, as are a few of the places they show. :) weird hey, it took place in my neighborhood. Now you can tell people you were where the Bridesmaids was filmed. :)
